Prayers are used all over the world. Prayer is defined as “an earnest request or wish.” Using that definition, it’s very simply a conversation with God, or the Divine, or whatever higher power you work with. There is no wrong way to pray. Opening your heart is the place to start. Here are some daily prayers that can help you through:
- Serenity Prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. - Third Step Prayer. God, I offer myself to Thee- To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power,
Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! - Seventh Step Prayer. My Creator, I am not willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.
- Loving Kindness Prayer.
May I have loving kindness
May I be well
May I be happy and at ease
May I have loving kindness
May you have loving kindness
May you be well
May you be happy and at ease
May you have loving kindness
May all beings have loving kindness
May all beings be well
May all beings be happy and at ease
May all beings have loving kindness - Crisis prayer. A little help!
- Gratitude Prayer. I am so happy and grateful now that… (Fill in the blank). Repeat 5 times.
- Buddha Prayer. Evoking the presence of great compassion, let us fill our hearts with our own compassion – towards ourselves and towards all living beings.
Let us pray that all living beings realize that they are all brothers and sisters, all nourished from the same source of life.
While some enjoy reciting prayers, others prefer to simply speak from the heart. You may bless your friends and enemies. You may share all that you have to be grateful for. You may ask for guidance. After prayer, sit quietly in meditation. This gives the divine an opportunity to reply.
