Substance Abuse Intervention Programs
Far too many addicts prefer to deal with their addictive behaviors in silence. They try to hide their substance use disorders to keep family and friends from getting involved. Unfortunately, that often results in addicts settling on the cycle of addiction instead of addressing their problems.
They have become my family and I am forever grateful to Joe and all the staff for everything they have done for me. I know in my heart I wouldn’t be who I am now if it wasn’t for DFC. Today I am able to apply what I learned there in my everyday life and and live a full life of happiness and recovery. I know that I can always count on Design for Change to be there with any struggles I face in the future.
As family members watch their loved ones sink into the abyss, it puts a strain on the entire family. At some point, collateral damage builds up to the point where some family members feel compelled to intervene. The problem with intervention is it’s not something people do every day. Given the importance of an effective intervention process, the family often needs help running the process.
At our Lancaster, California drug rehabilitation center near Los Angeles and Palmdale, we recognize a need for us to offer help and advice to family members who want to intervene on behalf of a struggling family remember. We willingly accept the challenge of educating family members about the intervention process. We do this because experience has taught us that sometimes, intervention is the only way an addiction sufferer will ever see the inside of addiction rehab.
The invention process involves lovingly confronting addiction sufferers about their addiction and how it is adversely affecting concerned family members. To aid in this process, we offer two options.
When you use our professional intervention services, we will help you answer questions such as:
- What does an intervention entail?
- Who needs to be present during an intervention?
- What are the key points that need mentioning when talking a loved one into accepting treatment?
- Why is it hard to get everyone on the same page when planning an intervention?
- How deep does that treatment need to go?
- Will you need insurance for the treatment?
- What role does each family member or any other close friend need to play for the intervention to work?
- When is the best time to plan an intervention?
- What next after the intervention?
- What are the best treatment centers to choose from?
First, we can offer family members instructions on organizing and running a drug or alcohol intervention. Second, if we can’t find a family member who feels comfortable leading the process, we can agree to take the lead. No matter who is leading the process, it has to be managed with great care and compassion.
The Addiction Treatment Process
When a client finally enters rehab, they will become part of a substance abuse treatment process that we use to help clients recover from the disease of addiction.
The process starts with an intake interview. During the interview, an administrator gathers important information about the client and the circumstances surrounding their addiction issues. That information becomes the basis for creating a custom treatment plan.
The entire substance abuse treatment process includes three steps:
- Therapy and counseling sessions
- Aftercare treatment
At this point, we would like to discuss these steps in more depth.

We work with a variety of providers, including:

Drug and Alcohol Detox
After months or even years of substance abuse, the addiction sufferer’s body and mind build up a dependence on the drug abuser’s substance of choice. Any attempts to stop using drugs/alcohol will typically result in the body revolting against abstinence. The addiction treatment community refers to this revolt as withdrawal.
The Process of Detoxification:
- Preparing Entry
In most cases, clients have to get past their withdrawal symptoms before they will be able to focus on therapy. That’s not always an easy thing to do when some withdrawal symptoms can pose serious consequences. As a point of reference, here are a few withdrawal symptoms associated with opioid addiction:
- Muscle cramping, convulsions, and body tremors
- Elevated blood pressure and heart rate
- Difficulty breathing
- Hallucinations and nightmares
- Difficulty with concentration
- Difficulty controlling body movements
To help clients avoid serious consequences from withdrawal, we offer medically monitored detox programs. We design this with the intent of keeping clients safe and comfortable while they detox. Should any client start showing signs of pain or discomfort, we would have medical professionals standing by to offer relief medication.
To be clear, we always want our clients to detox as naturally as possible without medical intervention. However, their safety has to be one of our top priorities. Therefore, we intervene when necessary.
Inpatient Addiction Rehab Treatment Programs
After detoxing, the client should have the strength and mental capacity to go through therapy. If a client has a significant addiction issue, they would most likely need to commit to inpatient treatment.
As part of inpatient treatment, the client would need to reside in the treatment facility 24/7 for as long as it takes to establish a meaningful recovery. The process usually takes 30 to 90 days.
While in the facility, clients participate in treatment at several levels. Most of their time goes towards individual counseling. This is their opportunity to work with one of our therapists on a mission. The mission is to uncover the root causes of their addiction. This is necessary because the root causes need the resolution to enable the client to avoid relapses. Most of the time, resolution involves creating good coping and life skills to navigate temptation and personal triggers.
Aside from individual therapy, most clients get the opportunity to work in groups. Group therapy programs help clients learn they are not alone in their addiction disease. They also get a chance to develop relationships that could become important to support resources in the future.
As for downtime, this is when clients get the opportunity to relax and interact with other clients on a personal level. For entertainment and exercise, clients are invited to enjoy the facility’s amenities and participate in group activities.
We also offer holistic addiction treatment programs so that our patients can have nothing but the best treatment options available. Some of the holistic therapies may include:
- Tai Chi
- Art therapy
- Massage therapy
- Routine exercise
- Proper nutrition
While holistic treatments work differently with every individual, we will take you through the necessary steps to determine what works for you. With time, a recovering addict will carry on some of these holistic programs past the treatment period for a healthier lifestyle altogether.
Outpatient Drug Rehab Program
We understand that not all clients will be able or willing to enter an inpatient addiction rehab program. For that reason, we do offer intensive outpatient treatment and general outpatient options.
While clients get to live at home, they have to report to our California rehab center for scheduled therapy sessions. Working with our clients, we use their individual circumstances to determine which outpatient option we feel is the best. The choice usually comes down to the depth of each client’s addiction problems. Let’s look at these options a little closer.
- Partial Hospitalization or PHP: A PHP program is by far the most restrictive of the outpatient options. Clients must participate by reporting for treatment at least five times a week for approximately eight hours each day. During that time, clients work with their therapists in both individual and group therapy sessions. Many of these sessions are task-oriented.
- Intensive Outpatient or IOP: At the next level down, we offer the IOP option. Clients must participate by reporting for treatment at least three times a week for approximately four to six hours each day. During their time in treatment, the focus falls almost entirely on individual therapy.
- General Outpatient or OP: With this option, clients only need to report for treatment once or twice a week for no more than two hours of therapy. This option is generally used as a maintenance option for clients who have completed a higher level.
Family Therapy Program
As we indicated in the intervention section, it’s common for family members to get wrapped up in their loved one’s addiction issues. This is what we refer to as collateral damage.
We inherently understand that each of our clients has a much better chance of maintaining sobriety if they have family support groups. For that reason, we offer family therapy programs. We design these programs to help family members come together and resolve family issues. In the process, we seek to build strength in the family unit to benefit the addiction sufferer.
First Responders Wellness Program
First responders are a critical part of our local community. We feel indebted to them for their commitment to keeping us safe. In return, we offer a first responder wellness program.
This focuses on providing custom addiction treatment options for people who work under extraordinarily stressful circumstances. We also extend these services to provide other mental health condition treatment options to keep our first responders physically and mentally healthy.
Aftercare Treatment Program
After completing rehab, clients are expected to return home to test their sober wings. For some people, that’s a daunting task. For people who are not yet secure in their recovery, we offer access to several aftercare options. These options exist to provide exiting clients with any additional support they might need. The most prominent options include 12 Step rehab program information, referrals to sober living homes, and additional outpatient therapy.
If you are ready to fight back against your addiction, we are ready to fight with you. We encourage you to contact us at your earliest convenience for more information about our facility and services.
