If you are a Carelon client and need addiction treatment, here are the answers to some questions you may be asking about Carelon insurance coverage.

Addiction Treatment Coverage Provided by Carelon

Addiction treatment coverage provided by Carelon adapts to each person’s unique needs, depending on their insurance plan.  Because no two people respond to treatment the same way, Design for Change Recovery works with Carelon to create a personalized approach that aligns with each client’s specific situation.  Our evidence-based, full continuum of care includes the following options:

Carelon typically covers treatment for most types of substance use disorders and cooccurring mental health disorders, including but not limited to:

Depending on a client’s needs, our treatment programs include short-term and long-term options for outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization programs.

Does Carelon Addiction Treatment Coverage Include Inpatient Rehab?

Yes. Carelon provides coverage for inpatient/residential rehab programs.  However, the amount of coverage varies depending on a client’s location and the insurance plan they have.  The plan may require copay and deductible payments.

Our inpatient/residential programs at Design for Change provide clients a safe, homelike environment where they live 24/7 during treatment.  This level of treatment is recommended for people with severe addictions, or for those without a supportive home environment outside of rehab.

Inpatient or residential programs typically last for 30, 60, or 90 days, or longer if needed.  We believe clients should take the time they need to heal and feel comfortable with their ability to navigate the outside world before exiting our program.  In addition to these precautions, we also provide aftercare services to help clients stay on track as they transition back into society.

Does Carelon Cover Intensive Intensive Outpatient Programs?

Carelon provides coverage for intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for clients who have milder addictions and a supportive home environment.  IOPs are also suited for individuals who can’t take time off from obligations with work, school, or family.

Design for Change offers intensive outpatient programs on a short-term or long-term basis, depending on a client’s needs.  Our IOPs provide the same level of care as an inpatient program, including a wide range of evidence-based therapies that promote healing.

Is Medical Detox Covered by Carelon?

Yes.  Carelon typically covers the cost of medical detox as part of its services.  They understand that medical detox helps clients withdraw from drugs or alcohol safely while under medical supervision.

Life-threatening withdrawal symptoms are possible based on the severity of addiction and the substance involved.  Medical detox provides a safe process of eliminating addictive chemical from the body.  Generally, people with addictions to alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and designer drugs require medical detoxification.

During medical detox, different medications are available to help alleviate withdrawals or to decrease cravings.  Methadone, naltrexone, or buprenorphine (Suboxone) minimize the symptoms.  Detox typically lasts for five to seven days depending on how the individual responds to treatment.

At Design for Change Recovery, our medical detox program provides safe, effective detoxification methods in a secure, safe setting where clients feel nurtured and protected during this intensive process.  Our compassionate medical team and supportive staff ensure that each client’s needs are met as they take this first step toward recovery from substance use.
