People from all walks of life are affected by substance use disorders. Although the individuals differ in many ways, they share one thing in common. They need to stop using drugs or alcohol. However, due to the many lifestyle differences among people with SUD, individualized treatment plans are necessary. With this in mind, Design for Change offers a range of treatment options including short-term rehab.
Considering each individual’s unique situation is an essential part of planning a treatment approach. It begins with a comprehensive assessment to determine a person’s severity of addiction, underlying mental health issues, and whether detox is required. This information allows treatment advisors to create a program that aligns with each person’s individual needs.
As part of our full continuum of care at Design for Change, we provide short-term programs such as 3-day, 5-day, and 7-day rehab. These programs include intensive treatment for individuals who cannot commit to a long-term, residential program. Our short-term rehab is best suited for people who have mild to moderate addictions, and a supportive home environment, but are restricted by demanding jobs or other responsibilities.
Our short-term program focuses primarily on detoxification and counseling. Clients generally detox during the first day or two and remain for a short time for observation. Depending on the substance involved and the severity of addiction, medications may be used to minimize withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. Some of the medications administered during detox may include naloxone, naltrexone, or buprenorphine.
Each substance of abuse produces varying withdrawal symptoms that range from mild to severe. A person’s age, physical health, and usage history influence the level of withdrawals they will experience. Most withdrawal symptoms peak during the first 3 days of detox and gradually taper off over a few weeks. However, some people continue to have symptoms for several months after detox.
Mild to Moderate Withdrawal Symptoms:
Severe Withdrawal Symptoms:
Certainly, no one wants to experience any of these symptoms and that’s why so many people avoid detox. Consequently, their substance use progresses to dangerous levels with an increased risk of overdose.
Not everyone will have the withdrawal symptoms listed above, but with 24/7 monitoring by addiction specialists and medical personnel, our medically-assisted detox process can be safe and effective.
Although detox helps cleanse the body of addictive substances, it is not a cure for addiction. Detox primarily focuses on the physical aspect of addiction, while rehab addresses the emotional and spiritual aspects that contribute to substance use. Clients are encouraged to follow up with an outpatient or residential rehabilitation program to gain the tools they need to maintain long-term abstinence.
Whether you attend 3-day, 5-day, or 7-day rehab, you should arrange to spend time in additional treatment if you want to ensure a lasting recovery. You can choose an outpatient or inpatient program that can be customized specifically for your needs.
