How Long Do California Alcohol Rehab Programs Last?
You are here:The length of an alcohol rehab program will be different for each person. How long your treatment lasts is determined by several factors. However, the shorter programs may not be ideal if you have been drinking heavily for an extended time.
Design for Change Recovery in Lancaster, CA offers several levels of treatment that can be customized for your unique needs. We understand that each person progresses through treatment at their own rate, so we offer flexible programs that can be adapted to suit your needs.
When Should I Begin an Alcohol Rehab Program?
Drinking patterns differ from one person to the next. Yet, certain patterns such as binge drinking and using alcohol with other substances are common. So, how do you know when to enter alcohol rehab? Here are a few examples:
- Cravings for alcohol
- Can’t reduce or stop drinking
- Drinking more than you intended
- Withdrawal symptoms when not drinking
- Spending a lot of money on alcohol
- Engaging in risky behavior while drinking
- Needing alcohol to deal with stress and emotions
Generally, people believe you need to hit “rock bottom” before seeking treatment for alcohol use disorder. But, waiting too long can make the recovery process more difficult. Addiction treatment specialists suggest entering treatment as soon as possible to ensure positive recovery outcomes.
What Determines the Duration of an Alcohol Rehab Program?
The time you spend in rehab can depend on factors such as how long you’ve been drinking, how much, and the severity of the addiction. Alcohol rehab programs generally last from 28 days to 3 months or longer. Design for Change typically recommends a minimum of 28 to 90 days for severe alcohol addictions.
Furthermore, your age, physical wellness, and underlying mental health disorders also play a role in determining the duration of treatment.
Different Levels of Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorders
Our alcohol rehab programs integrate various evidence-based practices to provide a comprehensive approach to treatment. By targeting the physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects consecutively, whole-person healing can be achieved.
Design for Change Recovery offers the following levels of treatment for a personalized approach to treatment:
Detoxification
In most cases, people who enter alcohol rehab programs must undergo detox first. We ensure that our clients are medically supervised during alcohol detox for a safe and effective process. If needed, we administer medications to help lessen withdrawal symptoms.
Outpatient Programs
Our outpatient programs allow clients to live at home while in treatment. Because of this, this level of care is best suited for people with mild to moderate addictions who have a supportive environment at home. On average, the programs can last for 6 months to a year and are often used as part of an aftercare plan.
We also offer an Intensive Outpatient Program that requires clients to devote 3 to 5 days per week to meetings and counseling sessions.
Residential / Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Program
The residential rehab program at Design for Change provides a comforting, home-like environment. Clients will remain at the facility during treatment and attend daily classes, activities, and counseling sessions. Our residential programs vary in length depending on the client’s needs and their progress. Typically, residential rehabs last from short-term 30-day programs to long-term 6-month or longer programs.
An Intensive Inpatient Program is also available at Design for Change. This level of care provides specialized treatment that is not available in other programs. Intensive inpatient treatment is for people who are not medically stable and may require 24-hour care along with medication-assisted detox. Individuals who are at high risk for relapse may remain in intensive treatment for a year or longer.
Partial Hospitalization Programs
Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides therapy 5 days per week for several weeks or months. The sessions are usually held in a medical or clinical environment where various evidence-based therapies are provided.
